What causes this: [jira.plugins.common.Utils] Cannot retrieve customfield...

We get this ERROR 1000s of times a day in our logs.  Example:

2015-03-30 13:32:36,333 http-bio-10.28.x.x-8080-exec-451 ERROR uname 812x816970x3 1kjcbxt 10.28.x.x /secure/AjaxIssueAction.jspa [jira.plugins.common.Utils] Cannot retrieve customfield 'progress'

Besides AjaxIssueAction it comes from dz other references - /rest/api/2/issue/ISERP-1078/comment, /secure/CommentAssignIssue.jspa, /servicedesk/customer/portal/1/create/12, etc.

So this is confirmed to be caused by the Gantt chart plugin and refers to the "Progress" field(s) in the Gantt configuration (where you specify which date fields will drive project Progress) though we have yet to determine what its trying to tell us is wrong or why it seems to log at every page view in every project. 

For some reason it truncates the namespace in the log.  Its actually de.polscheit.jira.plugins.common.Utils and this can be confirmed by going to Logging & Profiling, adding that namespace and setting log level to FATAL.

The vendor used to be very responsive but we've had a ticket in with them for three weeks now on this with no response.  He used to respond here quickly too but as you can see, this question has had their label since 30 MAR and nothing...  Where did you go Frank? :/

Thanks for posting this update. Just to confirm, we are using "JIRA Time Tracking" in the "Progress" fields, if that makes a difference. Looking forward to a response from Frank... Best, Stuart.

I get the same error while I do not have such a field in the database (checked there too!). By observing that we do also test the GANTT plugin I assume is a bug with it and due to this I will remove it. The number of ERRORs from the log is considerably big.

Yes we are getting this too, e.g. 2015-04-13 09:27:36,125 ajp-bio-8008-exec-2 ERROR 03083 567x46102x1 1fl5o9x 10.130.x.x /secure/CreateWorklog.jspa [jira.plugins.common.Utils] Cannot retrieve customfield 'progress' It's also in evidence for /secure/DeleteWorklog.jspa, /rest/greenhopper/1.0/sprint/rank, /rest/greenhopper/1.0/xboard/issue/update-field.json, /secure/WorkflowUIDispatcher.jspa. I'm not sure if it's only just started or not (we've recently upgraded to 6.4.1). But there are many of these being pushed into the log. (Do you know which plugin installed this customfield? Perhaps an upgrade to the plugin could have caused this problem.)
