Can I give a user access to a single page and not the rest of the space?

Arthur March 27, 2015

We have a Space A, which User X has access to.  Inside Space A is a page that embeds a page from Space B, User X doesn't have permission to view Space B. As a result, they get the following message:

"Unable to render {include}

The included page could not be found."

Is it possible to give User X access to just that specific page from Space B without giving them access to see other pages in Space B?

You can but it is harder than you think. You have to give user X access to Space B and then restrict all the pages, except the one you mentioned above, from user X.

The problem is that when you create a new page in Space B, you will have to remember to apply the restrictions or else the new page will be visible to user X.

Does anyone know if there is a feature request for such a thing. I find users asking for the same thing time and time again. And it is something that you can do easily with Google Docs, for example. Some users prefer to use GD only because of this.

You can, as John suggests, have space B open to User X, but then create two page families in Space B – one with is restricted so User X can't view it and is parent to most things in the space, and another that is not restricted and is parent to all pages that you want User X to be able to view.  When you want to create new pages in Space B that aren't visible to User X, you don't need to restrict them individually – just make sure they are in the restricted page family.
