migrate license

Dae Lee February 13, 2013

We're in the middle of procuring a server to host Confluence (and JIRA). In the meanwhile, we have an instance where I bought an initial 10 user pack. I would like to upgrade this license with another license we already bought but I didn't see information on how to migrate license from one server to another. It looked like your license can only be applied once per server? I didn't want to apply the higher user count license to a server that'll be decommed in a few months.

Hi Dae Lee,

Yes, it is transferable, you can use the license in the new server.

When you are setting up the new server, you either use and evaluation license or enter the Starter License you have during the install process (see step 2 of 4). The license does not "call home" to see if it's in use already. Just be sure when you are putting the new server into production you decomission old server at the same time - the license terms allow you to use a license key in one production environment at anytime. Have a look at this FAQ to see how JIRA is licensed (it's the same for Confluence as well).

Hi Dae Lee,

The 10 user Starter Licenses cannot be combined with another license to increase the number of users. Due to the chariable nature of the Starter License program, those licenses cannot be upgraded, please have a look at this FAQ:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=321853065

You can find links to the pricing for new licenses here:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=321848721

What you can do is simply enter your new license in to the existing server. When you are ready to upgrade your server you will use the same license over again (the license is not tied to the server you intially install it on.) When you move to the new server, you'll what to have a look at these documents:

JIRA

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Upgrading+JIRA

Confluence

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Upgrading+Confluence

Depending on the menthod you choose to upgrade, the license key may come over with the backup of your data. If it does not come over, you'll simply enter it in to the instance of the software. When you are ready to put that new server into production, you will decomission the old server which will ensure you are not outside the End User Agreement.

I hope this helps. If you have any quesitons about the process for upgrading, please create a technical support ticket at support.atlassian.com. If you have questions about licensing, please contact Atlassia's sales team at sales@atlassian.com

Le me clarify.

- I already bought another license and we're not looking to combine

- Current 10 user license is on a server that will be decommissioned

- I want to upgrade, not combine, current license on server to be decommed to take advantage of the license now BUT

- I need to transfer license to a new server once the new server arrives (~2 months)

i.e., Is the license transferable to another server?

Is that possible and if so how? Or do I have to purchase another license to install on the new server even if the old server will no longer be around?

I bought a license for version 5.7.3 and upgraded the version from 5.7.3 to 6.9.0. Now using the same licence for 6.9.0, I see that the page load is so SLOW and unable to open the attachments. However, when I use the trail version licence which i got along with 6.9.0 version, It works perfect with out any issues. Any help please?
