Questions regarding sharing permissions for issues

Andrei Peter Mirion March 3, 2015

Hello everybody,

We are currently facing an issue with the Post-Function

“Assign the issue to the reporter”

We currently have a project where nobody has the right to assign issues(Assignable user), this is not set in our environment.

If we want to switch a task for the assignee in this project, we have a custom button that copies the name from a field in the field of the assignee.

If we use in the worklfow the Post-Function "Assign the issue to the reporter", the name of the reporter is going to be copied to the assignee but the Issue won't get assigned to him as well. The issue does not appear in he's task list.

Filter “My open todos”        assignee in (currentUser())

Question:

In the Issue Permissions pane at "Assignable User" do we have to set the group to "all" ? In order to be able to assign issues back to the reporter ?

Kind Regards,

Sven & Peter

Hi Bruno,

thx for your answerer.

Just to understand if we got this right?

When we us this Post-Function,

 for example:

 Reporters name is “Schorsch”

 Must “Schorsch” have this permission?

In order to be able to assign issues to others ?

Best Regards,

Hello, if you're going to assign an issue to its Reporter at some point during the issue cycle you can't have the 'Assignable User' permission empty (inside the Permission Scheme). I understand that you have a project where users are not able to assign issues to other users, but if you want JIRA to do this for you (via the Post-Function, for example) you must configure the 'Assignable User' permission. You can set this option to any groups of your choice, you don't have to set it to all groups, just the ones that your Reporters belong to. For example, if the Reporters are all developers and belong to the 'developers' group, you can associate this group with the 'Assignable User' permission, that should be enough. However, if you leave this option empty, when JIRA try to execute the Post-Function the action will fail because the user (Reporter) won't have permission to be assigned with issues.

Hope this clarifies.
