Options for reports using cascading select?

Sebastien Ashby January 23, 2013

Hi,

Users want to use cascading select custom fields in their screens; on its own this is fine.

Our problem come from the unability of using cascading select custom fields as a statistic type in reports/charts. We want to be able to create pie charts based on the values of the first list or a combination of both lists.

I've been looking into my options and it seems there are four ways to deal with it:

Can someone share their own experience with trying out any of these approaches?

For someone familiar with some/all of them, which one do you recommend?

P.S. I believe the first one claims to be a workaround but it appears to not be.

S.

You can implement this and similar reporting needs with JIRA PDF View Plugin.

This plugin provides extreme flexibility although at the cost of defining your logic using Groovy scripts. Once you processed the data you wanted to visualize, you can render it into various charts, including pie.

Resouces:

  1. Read this tutorial about charting
  2. There is a sample "sales report" template (see the shot below) shipped with the plugin. You may want to use that as starting point when developing your own template.

As author of eazyBI plugin I can confirm that cascading selct custom field is supported by eazyBI and you can create both reports and charts using either just first level list values or expand them in detailed second level list values. Report creation is done by simple drag-and-drop, no need to do any programming or script creation.
