Will version2 add-ons be replaced by atlassian connect or live side-by-side?
Will connect plugins ever run on self-hosted JIRA server?
What could be a potential version3 for Atlassian plugins?

From what I've read and heard:
Thanks for your answer. Can you point me to any source where there is some official statement about any plans to make connect plugins work on JIRA server?

https://developer.atlassian.com/static/connect/docs/resources/faqs.html - it's a bit short, and gives as much date information as I have :-(

In this context, what about Speakeasy Plugins? https://developer.atlassian.com/docs/advanced-topics/speakeasy
Should they be considered when starting a new plugin project? It seems they are still not recommended for public JIRA instances, nor do I see a vibrant community around them.

Anyone knows why? It seemed like a pretty cool idea, although we just played with it a little, no real production experience. I still think it could solve many tiny front-end problems in Atlassian products...
