Copy multiple advanced checklists to a new card

Hannah Weiland May 7, 2024

Hi! Is there a way to copy multiple advanced checklists from one card to another within the same board? Right now I am manually adding checklists we've created from a "template" card to new individual cards by using the "add to card" checklist button within the new card. Then I have to find and select each checklist, sorting through all cards within that board, to add to the new card. It would be amazing to copy ALL checklists (at one time) from an existing card to another. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi @Hannah Weiland you could try automate it with butler to make things a bit easier! Is there a certain event that would trigger a checklist being added to a card? For example, a new card is added to the board, a card moves from one list to another, a certain member is added to the card, a specific label is applied, etc. An automation rule could look like this:

when a card is moved into list "In Review", add the "Review Tasks" checklist from card "Checklist Template" to the card

(this rule could add one or many checklists to the card).

If it's more random, then you could trigger this manually by using a butler card button to the card or adding a unique label. There will still be the action of triggering the button, but it will be a couple less clicks than the current process!

This is super helpful, thank you!

Hi @Hannah Weiland

This can be done with automation. I will give an example using an automation button...

I did a loom video but the sound wasn't captured so here is a summary of the steps:

  1. Add a card which will be where your checklists templates exist
  2. Add all your checklist templates to the card
  3. Go to automation > buttons
  4. Create card button and give it a name you like
  5. Go to the checklist tab of the automation actions
  6. Add the first checklist name and enter in the name of the card you want it to come from
  7. Repeat for each checklist in that card
  8. Click save and give it a test

This is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you so much!

Hi @Hannah Weiland

Trello don't have a native capability to copy multiple checklists from one card to another at once.

Kindly try other possibilities with the help of - Trello Butler Automation

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards
