Cannot up vote or down vote answers in Confluence Questions

Brandon Grieve July 26, 2022

We just enabled the Questions app for Confluence Cloud and are testing it. The app page on the Confluence Marketplace says that you are supposed to be able to up vote and down vote answers to questions. However, after much testing and searching, there seems to be no way to do that.

Is it because we're using the Cloud version, or am I missing something?

Hello @Brandon Grieve

This option is not showing for you when you click inside a question?

Those are the options to down or upvote, when you click on Questions in your left sidebar.

Even if you don't have enabled the permission to up ow downvote, the up and down arrows for votes, should be displaying next to the question.

If you are able to see it, but is not being able to vote and it returns a message Unauthorized Action, it is because the add space permission for the app wasn't added yet.

To allow votes and downvotes for the App, you can go to the Space Settings > Space Permissions > Apps.

For voting and downvoting to work, Questions for Confluence needs at least View and  Add permissions, but you can grant the add-on the Delete permissions as well, if necessary.

If that is not the case though, and the option like in the screenshot is not showing at all, please let us know.

Kindest Regards,
Jessica

Hi Jessica. We are not seeing the up/down arrows at all.

Thanks, Brandon

Thank you for checking there.

That is pretty weird, Brandon.

When you click Questions in the left sidebar and see all the listed questions in the space, when clicking in a question link to answer it, you should be able to see the vote option and able to see it for the answer, to vote for the answers:

Could you confirm with us which browser are you using?
Also, please try the following steps:

  • Make sure that you are running the latest version of the browser, so it will be compatible with the Cloud environment
  • Manually disable the browser extensions to avoid any of them possibly blocking the content to be loaded.
  • * Run the browser in incognito mode to see if this affected by stored information on the browser.
  • Try on a different browser;

If that doesn't work, we may need to look into your site and space, to see what could be going wrong there.

For that, we would need you to ask your site-admin to raise a new ticket on your behalf at https://support.atlassian.com/contact/.

Kindest Regards,
Jessica

Hi Jessica,

Our team has enabled the voting permissions however when users are voting on the questions the votes for the questions still remain at 1 and don't move up or down.

We're expecting the votes to count up/down. Is there something we're missing in our configuration?

@Brandon Grieve welcome to the Atlassian Community. Are you trying to upvote your own answers, or are other users testing the application with you? I believe you cannot upvote your own answers. Let us know if this is the scenario or not.

Other users are testing the app with me, and apparently no one sees any mechanism to upvote or downvote answers.

@Brandon Grieve I am going to tag Atlassian Support here since this is an Atlassian managed application. Hopefully someone will jump in and assist.
