Why can't I search for issues containing "BE"?

On our team, in the ticket summary we start the summary with "FE" if it is front end related and "BE" if it is backend related. I am wanting to move that info out of the summary field and instead am using a field in the ticket where I check off either "FE" or "BE". I am trying to apply this change in bulk to all tickets that were already created with "BE" or "FE" in the summary. To do this I am putting either "FE" or "BE" into the issue search text box and selecting the project I want to search in. "FE" returns all the results I expect (tickets with "FE" in the summary). "BE" returns absolutely no results, even though I know I have several tickets starting with "BE". I have even tried specifically searching for "BE" in the summary field and I still get no results. How can I make it so these tickets starting with "BE" are returned in search results?
