Discover the latest enhancements ✨ to Issue Creation in Jira Work Management!

Hi everyone! I’m Eric, Product Manager on the Jira Work Management team. Super excited to share these enhancements to the issue creation experience in your business projects.

First, enhancements. We’ve touched up the process of creating a new issue and choosing an issue type. We’ve also made it easier to spot your newly created issues with a highlight. And finally, we’ve made the experience more streamlined by only showing the necessary fields when you’re getting started.

Now comes the fun part: new features!

  • You can now create issues anywhere between cards and rows in the board and list views

  • As long as the transition rules are respected, you can also create issues directly in any status column or grouping on the board and list views

Save time on manual status updates and focus on what matters: your work.

This is super handy and I hope that this UX gets extended to JSW and JSM kanban / list views. I have noticed an issue however.

When creating using this method, if there are fields required as stated in the Field Configuration, it will popup the create modal so that users can add the additional required information.

However this doesn't honour the user preferences for custom fields and you'd need select 'All fields' each time in order to populate extra information.

I'm aware that we can just use the [Create] button from the top menu however I would expect these create methods to work in the same way.

Is this a bug? Because it's a weird thing to make intentionally different to the normal create modal?

Please clarify! Many thanks, Dave

Hi @Dav thanks for your great feedback!

Regarding your point below:

When creating using this method, if there are fields required as stated in the Field Configuration, it will popup the create modal so that users can add the additional required information.

However this doesn't honour the user preferences for custom fields and you'd need select 'All fields' each time in order to populate extra information.

I can indeed confirm that the intended behaviour is to only show required fields in the create modal when creating issues inline in the Jira Work Management experience. The idea is to reduce friction for creating issues this way as minimal as possible.

However, we have heard your feedback and others as well, and we will be changing this behaviour back to show all fields in the JWM flow's create modal rather than required fields only. This change will be rolled out in a couple of days.

Thank you!

Hi @Eric Zheng

Not a real fan of this. And potential problems with users bypassing the process and important steps prior to the column they want to create in. If it won't let them because of a linear workflow enforcement, they will get frustrated.

Is there a way to turn this off for an instance?
