Bitbucket DC: New Features You Will Love

It’s time to share with you the latest updates from Bitbucket Data Center. In the last 4 months, we delivered product enhancements big and small for improved security and more delightful developer experience:

Dark Theme

Version: 8.16

Last quarter, we shipped Dark Theme for Bitbucket DC, which was not only the most requested product enhancement (BSERV-9949). With Dark Theme, you can enjoy a sleek, modern UI that's aesthetically pleasing, reduces eye strain, and enhances readability of text and code. Dark Theme makes it easier to work for longer periods without discomfort.

Auto-Merge of Pull Requests

Version: 8.15

Auto-merge is a game-changing feature that streamlines and automates the pull request process. Developers don’t have to check if a pull request is ready for merge by frequently checking the build status and approvals from reviewers. Just press the Merge button and once your pull request satisfies all merge criteria, Bitbucket will attempt to merge it. It is a “set and forget” experience. Of course, you can still merge pull requests manually, but for many developers it will be a massive time saver.

Signing Commits with SSH Keys and X.509 Certs

Version: 8.15

We elevated security with the release of SSH keys and X.509 certificates for signing commits. Customers can now enjoy peace of mind, knowing that all code changes are signed with state-of-the-art cryptographics. By allowing developers to sign commits using common SSH keys (instead of just GPG keys), we've lowered the barrier for wide adoption of this practice.

For our most security-conscious customers, we've taken an additional step by adding support for X.509 certificates. Customers can use existing PKI infrastructure to enforce commit signing with certificates that are already owned by their personnel.

System-signed Commits

Version: 8.17

In order to follow strict compliance requirements all code changes need to be signed, regardless if they are made by humans or Bitbucket. The latter often adds commits to repositories on behalf of a developer (such as pull request merges, web editor commits, or accepted code suggestions by users). Previously, these commits were unsigned, which could posed a compliance risk. This is no longer an issue! Bitbucket Data Center signs it’s own commits with a GPG key.

Embed Loom Videos in Pull Requests

Version: 8.15

To enhance the collaboration experience in Bitbucket Data Center, we recently introduced a built-in video player. Now, we went further by adding support videos from  Loom,  YouTube, and Vimeo. You can easily share video content with your team by simply pasting a link into a pull request description or comments.

Easy Access to Patch and Diff Files

Version: 8.17

Another productivity booster is the ability to download .diff and .patch files straight from the pull request UI. This feature allows developers to share code changes with teammates outside of Bitbucket and review them in their IDE of choice.

One-Click Code Block Copying

Version: 8.17

Last but not least. Say goodbye to the tedious selecting and coping code snippets. A new Copy button now appears when a user hovers over a code block, enabling them to copy the entire code with a single click.

As we continue to innovate and push the boundaries of what Bitbucket Data Center can do, we're already looking forward to what's coming next.

We are always keen to hear your suggestions and feedback. So keep it coming to https://jira.atlassian.com and let's make Bitbucket Data Center even better, together!

Best regards,
Bitbucket Data Center team

Wow, that is a lot of great features!

I don't think I have seen the addition of video before in pull requests, but that is a great addition!
